House Turret Do's and Don'ts

house turretA house turret lends significant character to your house. There is a funny story about a Man and his Wife who’s children had grown up and moved away, leaving the parent’s in peace and able to have all kinds of fun at will. They lived pretty remotely so that their few remaining relatives rarely ever made it out to see them. In fact, in the forty years they had lived there, the Wife’s Cousin had never visited.

The Man was gleeful in anticipation. He had always teased his beloved spouse about her Scottish and piratical background. Her ancestors were known for keeping the family coffers rich with plundering from estates across the Border in England. He had dressed the kids often as pirates for Hallowe’en and helped them make a Jolly Roger (if you have seen the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, then you know this is a skull and crossbones pirate flag) for playing in the backyard.

So the day that the loved relatives were too arrive the Man scaled his walls and to hoist the welcoming Jolly Roger. All homeowners beware, he did not first consult his roofer because he was considering a roof replacement anyway, so don’t do this at home. Later, his Wife rushed out to greet her long awaited Cousin, a Brigadier General. She was a little surprised by his stony glare when he got out of the car to give her a hug. She turned around to see what he was looking at. There, happily flapping in the breeze, was the large black flag with its ghastly message atop the house turret.
