How do I know if my siding is leaking?

On a ladder repairing the siding.

The first step to stopping any type of leak of locating the source. You might think the roof is leaking, but it could be your siding or your windows! Leaks can be highly evasive - don't leave it to chance.

If your home leaks only during a medium to heavy downpour with very little wind then most likely the source of the leak is from the roof or the gutter. If the leak only occurs during a light to heavy wind-driven rain towards the wall then it's very likely the source of the leak is either from a window or siding. Improperly installed siding is very simple to check by disconnecting one siding panel above the leak area and if the insulation or the wall is wet behind then the siding is the source and must be fixed to prevent further damage.
