On the referral of a friend, we contracted Norman Byam, of NJB construction, to replace a leaky skylight. We seriously regret hiring him. The roof leaks, he lied to us many times, he no longer answers our phone calls or messages. To boot, our friend who recommended him is also having issues with a leaky roof nd having trouble getting him to come back and fix it.
The short short story is: We were not happy with the quality of his work (very sloppy, did not use proper flashing kits, silicon everywhere, left holes in the roof where lag screws used to be) and asked him to redo the job with the proper equipment. He was upset, said "it won't leak." He put us off, lying several times with excuses such as "I ordered the kit but it hasn't come in," or "they sent me the wrong one, I have to reorder now," before finally telling us he had not ordered the kit. Meanwhile the roof leaked several times (any hard rain), and though we called him on a weekly basis, he never even came to fix the leak, much less to install the proper flashing kit. He no longer answers our phone calls.
We are now ordering the proper kit for an additional $200 and installing it ourselves, after having paid $1200 for a ~$400 skylight and several months of stress.
